SOLD - Manufacturer & Printer of Rash Vests and Bibs (mainly but not solely) for Surfers

Mike Claire Textiles

New owner for rash vest business

Established in the 1990s as a clothing manufacturer Mike Claire Textiles, based just on the Devon side of the border with Cornwall, evolved to become principally a manufacturer of rash vests catering mainly for the surfing and swimming market. With bright colours and offering printing of logos, the business has built up an excellent name and reputation in its market. If you see a surf school on the beach it’s likely that they are kitted out in vests from this business.

The best sellers are nylon ‘rashies’ for use in the sea but, for use in chlorinated water, polyester is the better fabric. Both can be screen printed with logos or messages.

Deciding that it was time to retire the eponymous Mike Claire instructed specialist business transfer agency, Beardsley Theobalds, to handle the sale. The promotional campaign attracted interest from the likes of workwear suppliers and screen-printers. However, it was Maxine Singleton, from near Exeter who was successful with her offer for the business. With her interests in sewing and crafting this business fitted with exactly what she was looking for. She will be supported on the IT side by her husband, Charlie.

Mike Claire will be assisting with a handover of the business to Maxine who he is pleased will be continuing to support his loyal customers with plans take the business further.
