The business was established in 1994 by John Hall and Peter Caunter. They developed the business into a major supplier of components to the bed and upholstered furniture industries building a strong reputation based on the quality, design and customer service, providing precision cut timber components, timber sub-assemblies and complete frames from their well equipped premises.
With John and Peter approaching retirement, the business was offered for sale with an Exeter based specialist business transfer agency, Beardsley Theobalds following an introduction by their accountant, Paul Guest at Peplows. A promotional campaign was conducted and with Peter happy to delay his departure from the company and remain with the business temporarily following a sale, the business attracted interest not only from people within the timber industry (including a foreign timber supply company) but also from business investors who could provide a variety of business skills.
The company and property have now been purchased by Mike Davies, who has previously been a company director in a number of blue chip companies and brings a wealth of knowledge gained over many years in the manufacturing sector, including a long period with a cabinet manufacturing business.
Mike is in the process of expanding the business, bringing in new customers and extending the range supplied to existing customers and plans to add new products over the coming year. The business currently having a work-force of 30 is expected to increase to around 45 initially with the immediate expansion programme progressing. Westcon is currently recruiting for wood machinists, assemblers, upholsterers and admin staff.
