Business Expansion by Acquisition Provides Added Geographic Coverage

Oil Services South West, based near Okehampton, was established in 1994 by Alan Oram and his wife Christine offering the supply and installation, servicing and repair of oil-fired boilers, central heating systems and oil tanks. Supported by two engineers they built up an excellent reputation operating largely in the residential market (but with some commercial work) with clients ranging from owners of modest homes to a 55 bedroom mansion.

Looking to retirement Alan chose to instruct specialist business transfer agency, Beardsley Theobalds to act for him. With this being a rather niche market business a targeted promotional campaign was conducted contacting owners of similar businesses to see if they were looking for expansion via acquisition. Also the business was featured on the leading websites in the business transfer market as well as Beardsley Theobalds’ own website. These forms of promotion attracted people who were working in the industry in other parts of the country and were looking to move to The South West and become their own boss and from some of the larger local players in the market.

After several meetings and negotiations the buyer of the business is Sam Fice who, along with his wife Nicola are the owners of a similar business, Energy Systems (SW) Ltd. This was a business established in 1984 co-incidentally by a friend of Alan Oram as an oil fired heating company. Sam started in the trade in 1999 with Energy Systems serving an apprenticeship. In 2007 he and his wife took over the company becoming directors and they grew the business and in 2011 started to offer services on natural gas and LPG appliances and systems and have won OFTEC national industry awards for their workmanship.

Alan Oram was pleased to be handing over his business and clients to someone he respects within the trade.

Energy Systems is based just outside of Exeter and now, through their acquisition, they cover the majority of the county. Sam Fice says “Whilst we continue to grow we maintain our professional, personal, friendly and reliable service that our customers have grown to expect from our team. From the beginning of November this year the business will be employing six engineers to carry out the servicing, maintenance and installation of boilers, heating systems and controls covering both domestic and commercial clients.”

This is an example of the diverse range of businesses offered through Beardsley Theobalds. For a full list of businesses currently available and further information for both purchasers and vendors, please telephone 01392 253071 or visit their web site at www.beardsleytheobalds.co.uk.
