SOLD : Gloucestershire Domiciliary Care Business Changes Hands

St. Vincent’s was established in Gloucester in 1986 by John and Kay Burris initially as a nursing agency but evolved to provide both nursing and domiciliary care and then more recently concentrating purely on domiciliary care. Services now provided cover domestic help such as washing, cleaning and meal preparation, through personal care to special assistance for people with learning difficulties. The services are provided both through contracts with Gloucestershire County Council and also to private clients.

Kay Burris had been running the business for the last few years (with the help of her management team and overseeing over 50 staff) since the death of her husband. Kay decided that it was time to step back and, following a recommendation, decided to instruct specialist business transfer agency, Beardsley Theobalds of Exeter (01392 253071) to act for her in the sale of the business. A national marketing campaign was conducted and the business was also advertised on Beardsley Theobalds’ web site as well as other business transfer websites. The business was put on the market at ‘offers around £280,000’ for the goodwill and assets. Interest was shown from right across the country, from people who are working in the industry and wished to have their own business, firms who were established in the industry and looking for expansion and also people who simply looked on the business as an investment opportunity where they could provide the management skills.

Several offers were made for the business and Kay decided to sell to a team already operating in the industry having a variety of business interests. This team is led by Managing Director Peter Scanlon and Service Director Jacqui Adams. Peter has extensive experience of healthcare management and Jacqui is an experienced operational manager and a registered Occupational Therapist. They hope to achieve a smooth transfer for both service users and staff and once settled in look to expand the business both through the range of services offered and in the geographic area covered.
