SOLD - Educational travel agency acquired by education support services provider

Belaf organises language study holidays in England and was established in 1975. It has more recently been arranging individual French student placements but originally arranged school trips for French students who, with their teachers travelled to England, stayed with host families and enjoyed excursions to attractions, sights and cities across the south of England. The style has been for the students to immerse themselves into an English speaking environment rather than to undertake more formal schooling.

Managed by Carole Browne and her daughter Georgia they decided it was time to step back and to offer their business for sale and they selected the Exeter based specialist business transfer agents Beardsley Theobalds to act for them.  The business was advertised on the main websites within the industry as well as Beardsley Theobalds alerting many hundred selected people on their register of buyers.

Advertising the business as being able to be run from anywhere, interest was shown from across the UK and abroad. The business soon caught the attention of Jen Wood who already had several businesses within the education sector including a school for children who need support beyond the mainstream sector.

Due to travel restrictions at the time, the initial meeting was conducted via Zoom and Carole and Jen hit it off immediately with Carole being very happy to pass her business over to someone who would operate it with the same ethos and passion.

Carole will be helping with a handover into new ownership and with foreign travel restrictions now being lifted the business is poised to attract language students once again.

Jen has said “As well as Belaf's current offerings, I'm in the process of setting up cultural placements and opportunities for students to complete TEFL courses to promote English teaching overseas. If anyone is interested in contacting me directly they can email me at info@belafinternational.com .”

  • Easily operated by mother and daughter owners on a very part-time basis
  • Significant opportunity for a new owner to expand the business by reintroducing at least some of its former offerings (especially for groups of children as opposed to individual students as is currently the case) for which the business receives continuous, sadly unsatisfied, demand
  • Currently operated from home and could readily be relocated (literally to anywhere) by new owner
  • Turnover £85,000 (y/e 31/12/2019 – prior to Covid-19 restrictions temporarily stalling the business), Net Profit almost £28,000
  • Genuine and very significant scope for growth, whilst being an interesting and profitable proposition for someone who would find the part-time working hours quite appealing!
  • Attractively priced for early sale
