Surprisingly upbeat outlook from small businesses buoy prospects
Small business bosses are surprisingly upbeat about their prospects, according to research by the Academy for Chief Executives.
Some 84pc believe the outlook is mostly "sunny", ACE’s business barometer found. Andrew Morris, ACE chief executive, said the finding was more positive than he had expected, and put it down to small businesses’ ability to adapt.
"The are not oil tankers, they are little speedboats. Basically, they are all being really enterprising, while large corporates cannot be so fleet of foot," he said. The average revenue of ACE’s 380 members is £9m. Some 102 responded to the survey.
He said they are taking advantage of cheaper advertising costs and being more targeted about promotions.
